We are excited to unveil the latest project we are working on at Fonterra’s Clandeboye site to convert the two largest boilers from coal firing to pellet firing.

This project involves returning to the twin Babcock & Wilcox Towerpak™ boilers we installed 20 years ago! See attached pictures from construction in 2004 and today. The great condition of the boilers is a testament to Fonterra’s high standards of operation and maintenance which has made fuel conversion a suitable decarbonisation pathway.

The conversion requires the fuel handling system to be modified to suit the weather-sensitive pellet fuel and new emissions equipment to be installed.

Site work will be tricky maneuvering around the active site and working on existing plant. Plenty of work in planning has already been done to make sure we complete all the changes in the short-shut window.

It has been a privilege to work in collaboration with Fonterra and other key stakeholders to develop the best option for decarbonising this strategically important site and we are looking forward to a successful completion the project next year.
